Beth Hatcher

Principal + CEO

What led to Beth Interactive?

My early career was in healthcare marketing, where I built digital marketing programs for several Chicago hospitals. In 2010, my husband and I decided to move to Germany, so I asked my boss if I could continue working remotely for the hospital. She said no—but told me that I could continue the work if I became a vendor.

And that’s where Beth Interactive began: just me, working solo from a dining room table in Germany. I added 1 team member in 2011, moved back to Chicago in 2013, and things really started picking up from there.

Since then, our niche has transformed from healthcare marketing to healthcare fundraising—and we now specialize in digital philanthropy and strategic communications for non-profits across the country!

What is your favorite part of your job?

My greatest passion is people. I love the organizations we serve—but truly, the relationships with the lovely, compassionate and talented people who work there make my job the joy that it is.

And I am incredibly lucky to be supported by an absolutely exceptional team at Beth Interactive! We all care deeply about the people we work with and their families. I am both proud and honored that many of my clients and team members have become friends for life.

Ask me about:

International travels (especially living in Paris and Germany!), languages, specialty cocktails, wine, raising two daughters—and, of course, digital philanthropy.

Adrian Benedict

Director of Content Strategy

What led you to Beth Interactive?

In 2011, I began my career in non-profit fundraising in Flint, Michigan. Adding to my toolkit over the years, I found my stride in higher education annual giving. I enjoy creative, strategic thinking and organizing the tools and resources to get the job done. Give me a spreadsheet and watch me go! I was thrilled when the opportunity to join the Beth Interactive team arose, and I consider myself lucky to be surrounded by the best colleagues and clients out there.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I love knowing that at the end of the day, a concept I helped develop or a bit of copy I wrote could ultimately lead to someone out there getting the helping hand they’ve needed. Philanthropy is a team effort, and I love that my team and clients are all focused on the same thing: making the most significant impact possible.

Ask me about:

Propagating plants, negotiating with toddlers and developing an overly confident approach to DIY projects.

Allison Guntz

Senior Director of Content Strategy

What led you to Beth Interactive?

I came to Beth Interactive in 2018 from a food pantry, where I’d worked on both the direct service and development sides. I was thrilled at the opportunity to dive more deeply into philanthropy strategy, plus I loved the warm and quirky team!

What is your favorite part of your job?

I love the relationships, with both my colleagues and amazing clients. I’m also a big fan of creative, critical thinking when faced with unique challenges. To me, the perfect scenario is a brainstorming session that begins with, “So we have kind of a weird problem…”

Ask me about:

What it’s like to have 9 roommates (mostly good), my short-lived tenure as a snowboarder/skateboarder (I’m a southpaw!), the latest home improvement project (I’m probably avoiding it) and anything to do with my dog, Iris (unofficial BI office pet).

Anneka Bakker

Marketing and Fundraising Specialist

What led you to Beth Interactive?

I graduated with a graphic design and marketing degree and took a marketing internship in Chicago. After I decided to make Chicago my home, a mentor told me about Beth Interactive. I’ve been on the team since 2022 and have loved my time here.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I love bringing a client’s vision to life and that magical moment when I can take a client’s abstract idea and turn it into reality. It’s an honor to share the incredible work of our clients with their audiences.

Ask me about:

Rock climbing. I can show you the ropes!

Brandon Waltz

Director of Technical Services

What led you to Beth Interactive?

It feels like a lifetime ago that I picked up a degree in arts, media and culture after meandering through 5 colleges, then moving from the trees of the Pacific Northwest to the rolling meadows of the Midwest. I was living in the Jewel of the Arctic Circle, the Land Down Under, the City So Nice They Named It Twice: Chicago. There, I was friends with Beth as she built the company. As things got bigger and bigger, I was lucky enough to join and was very pleased to find a place where I could work on useful things with friendly people who (mostly) put up with my bad jokes.

What is your favorite part of your job?

It’s a bit of a peanut butter and chocolate situation. I like that we get to play a role in helping our excellent clients make a positive impact in the world. But I’m also a huge fan of my coworkers. Both are lovely on their own, but when you put them together, you have the superior deliciousness of a peanut butter cup, aka Beth Interactive.

Ask me about:

My favorite Charles Wysocki jigsaw puzzle, tiki bar recommendations in your area or the secret ingredient in my chocolate chip cookie recipe. I would also be very happy to organize your closet/garage/house and make a spreadsheet of everything.

The company’s dedication to philanthropy deeply resonated with me. What led you to Beth Interactive?

After working in marketing agency settings for a few years, I needed to realign my professional career with what is most important to me–helping others. A friend shared the BI job listing, and there may or may not have been happy tears upon reading it. Utilizing my skill set at BI to empower nonprofits brings me so much joy, and what more could you ask for from a job?

What is your favorite part of your job?

My coworkers and supporting clients through creative writing. Doing work you are passionate about is such a gift. Doing that work collaboratively with a team eager to support one another? Priceless. Our clients have such amazing stories, and it’s a joy to put words to their work in a way that captures the essence of their missions and inspires donors to support them.

What skill or talent do you have that surprises people?

I’m a classically trained ballerina with a deep and abiding love for contemporary ballet and modern dance. Dance is the language that transcends all language barriers and brings people together in a uniquely beautiful way. I ran a dance studio in my 20s and firmly believe everyone is a dancer!

What led you to Beth Interactive?

I earned my Master of Public Administration from the University of North Dakota. Since then, I have been involved in fundraising in some capacity. What is your favorite part of the job?

I love the data and the spirit of collaboration! Analyzing results and data insights from a campaign and collaborating with colleagues to drive future success is something I love to do.

What led you to Beth Interactive?

With 10+ years of experience in the non-profit sector, I have always dabbled in fundraising communications—writing, strategy and design. Over time, I continued to gravitate toward these projects and enjoyed them more and more! I heard about Beth Interactive through a friend from my book club, who is now a colleague. The rest is history!

What is your favorite part of your job?

Hands down, the best part of my job is seeing a client’s face light up with joy (and relief!) when they see a final product from the Beth Interactive team or a proposed solution to a longtime problem. It’s just the best. That, and my colleagues, of course.

What led you to Beth Interactive?

Germany. When I was offered a physics post-doctoral fellowship in Bochum, Beth (my wife) and I jumped at the opportunity. Beth formed the company, and we prepared for our journey abroad.

As Beth Interactive expanded and we moved back to Chicago, I moved from academia to a small business doing materials design, then a company making maps for self-driving cars. During this time, I learned a lot about small business operations, management and solving technical problems. I joined the Beth Interactive team in 2022, and my role allows me to help Beth expand the business and solve daily problems. At Beth Interactive, I’ve found what I was always looking for: a fantastic group of people who care deeply about their team, clients and the amazing work they do.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I love working with numbers and data to solve problems. In my role, I’m constantly thinking about how things fit together, trying out new ideas and helping solve issues that impact the company. With 20 years of experience in programming, applications, and using various tools to solve problems and construct systems, I love to help my colleagues find solutions to challenges.

What led you to Beth Interactive?

I pursued my Psychology degree at the University of Illinois Chicago. Amid that journey, I had a healthy and beautiful baby girl. I took on many nonprofit roles after that—on top of being a full-time mama! I’ve always had a knack for writing and telling stories, but I never thought I could make a career out of it.

I always carried this thought with me: I want my children to be proud of their mama no matter the role. Beth Interactive has allowed me to do what I’m passionate about. I know my children will see how far working hard and following your dreams can take you.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I love that I get to bring out my creative side here. I’m a nerd—I love learning. Beth Interactive keeps me on my toes, creating something new or learning something different every day, and I love that!
